Let's get this out of the way: Most of us can't even begin to justify purchasing a Core i7-6950X. The official MSRP is $1,723 in lots of 1,000, for the boxed chip, but even Amazon's reduced price of $1,650 puts the cost of entry at more than a complete high-end gaming rig. You don't go looking at Intel's 'Extreme' line with an intent to purchase unless you have very specific needs-or a sizeable paycheck that might benefit from improved CPU performance.
